I showed you the start of my newest painting.  I have done some more work on it and have made a few changes.  I didn't like the way the water covered most of the canvas, especially since I am going to have some people in the foreground.  SO,  I moved the water back and enlarged the beach area and made the beach go further back into the background.  Then I worked on the clouds, water and added pink and yellow to the sky, water, and beach area.  This gives the painting cohesiveness, in other words, if you have pink in the sky, it needs to be elsewhere in the painting also, etc. I used turquoise deep and vivid lime green for the water, then added white.  I wanted the water to be fairly calm and a happy color.  I added a lot of white, tinged with yellow and blue to add water movement. I also added dark blue under the white on the beach along the waves to make them jump off the beach.  It adds dimension.  I love the people in the background, and I'll most likely add some more…

Ok, here is a preview of the newest painting I am working on.  I haven't named it, of course, but it is a beach scene with people in it.  It is special to me, but I'll go into that more later.  Anyway the first of it is below.  Thanks for looking!   And I finally got the latest painting sold up on the gallery!

I am  SO EXCITED!  We were told that only one painting for each person would be accepted into the Nature and Wildlife competition and some would not get in at all.  One of mine was accepted!!   It is the one of  "THE LAST SANCTUARY"  I didn't realize that this is a national competition!  That makes it all the more special to me!  My first national!  Do I sound excited?  Ok, I'll try to calm down...NOT!!!

We had to deliver the paintings to the art association by June 11. ( Non-members sent in images of their paintings by June 6th.) They came in from all over the country. Then all the images/paintings were prejudged to see who got into the show.   We then picked up our paintings last Tuesday, June 14th, not knowing who got in and who didn't.  They had until today to let us know who got in.  All that time we were on pins and needles, or at least I was!  At 3:15 this afternoon, I got an email saying that mine had been chosen as an entrant!!

     Now, they…
Well, tomorrow is the big day!  I will take three paintings down to the St. Augustine Art Association for the Nature and Wildlife show!  I am very excited about it and certainly hope to win something!  There are 7-8 prizes being awarded with a total of $5000 in prize money.  The three paintings I am entering are below.  Two of these you have seen and the third I painted this week.  It is a seascape of a boat coming to shore in a storm.
The judging will take place on Monday, I think,  and I will let you know for sure if I win anything.  The competition is very stiff,  so I'm just not sure.  But one can always hope, right?
Oh, and I sold another painting!  It is one I don't think I had on the gallery.  It was a fun little painting of roses growing up into the trees.  This is a rose bush that has been around for many years and has actually covered a tree in Elkton, FL.  It is an old heritage rose, sorry I forgot the name, but it is a single white rose.  It only…
